KE$HA: Pop/Rock Princess in Training or Rabid Raccoon that needs to be Put Down??

First off, stop pretending you don’t like “Tik Tok,” the first (perhaps, last?) iTunes smash hit from new Pop singer, Ke$ha. DJs have been hammering the deliciously repetitive song into our heads since it’s release in August of ‘09, and whether you know it or not, you’ve memorized every single ridiculous lyric. Little Miss dollar sign has undoubtedly partied herself onto the map, but does she have a high enough tolerance to stay there?? After having listened to her recently released debut album, Animal, I’m here to tell you………Maybe.

When you open the case (if you’re not iTunes-ing it), DON’T BE SCARED. Ignore the album art until you’ve given the tracks a once through (the booklet reads “It’s Party Time!” and dons pics of Ke$ha dressed as a wastey-face Indian Chief in a tribe of Dinosaurs, Cheetahs and Astronaut Penguins yikes). Like any ear-candy album, there’s tons of fluff—poppy, screeching, over-produced fluff—so we can’t count that against her. The first six tracks seem to hold the gold, opening with the surprisingly sweet, “Your Love is My Drug,” followed by “Tik Tok” and a potential second radio hit, “Take it Off,” a ditty somewhat reminiscent of Brit’s “Circus.” The most ear-pleasing, somewhat humorous 17 seconds of Animal open track five, or “Stephen,” a song about the ONE guy Ke$ha can’t seem to make swoon… “Blah Blah Blah” features a bridge by 3Oh!3 (who?) and might boast a good club song. After that the album is somewhat of a come-down. “Party at a Rich Guy’s house,” “Backstabber” and “Boys & Boots” fail to impress, and “D-I-N-O-S-A-U-R” might have the ability to discredit any potential talent revealed in earlier tracks (I wish I was kidding—it’s one of the worst songs I’ve EVER heard).

Even as an artist Ke$ha doesn’t quite garner the sympathy vote. In her lyrics she prides herself on being nothing but a party girl, drowning in JD and fighting off all the guys that wanna do her. I could be wrong, but a shot of modesty might do her better than the handles of cockiness she seems to be chugging on the regular. At her best, Ke$ha IS that drunk, obnoxious girl at the party. If you have any room in your heart for THAT girl, Ke$ha might just stand a chance…

Merry Christmas from The Haute Mess

…or Happy Holidays if you must.

Nothing says Holiday Cheer with an excessive amount of Kristen Wiig clips.  Dooneese, Sue Surprise, Gilly and Kat join all of us at The Haute Mess in wishing you and your legitimate or illegitimate families the Happiest of Holidays wherever you may be (unless you’re in Nebraska, in which case, we’re just sorry).

More classic clips after the jump…

Disney Cashes in on Michael Jackson, too

The flooding childhood memories almost disguise the fact that something fishy is going on…

It’s official - One of the most incredible shows in the past 30 years of Disneyland’s history is making a triumphant return to the park’s Tomorrowland area for a limited time.  Captain EO, the epic 17-minute 3-D movie produced by George Lucas, directed by Francis Ford Coppola and staring Michael Jackson & ANJELICA HUSTON (!!!), will head back into its old theatre starting in February 2010 - a move that has long been rumored and conveniently confirmed following a customary grace period after Michael Jackson’s death this past summer.

Disney, who used as much tact as possible with the reinstallation [read: none, whatsoever], is bringing back the 1986 generational icon due to the “success of the ‘This Is It’ concert film” (Source).  Now although we literally jumped for joy and nearly exploded at the final confirmation of this incredible news, we can’t help but feel a little guilty as the novelty seems to come with its own inherent lack of sensitivity - we’re not pointing fingers, but this wreaks of Joe Jackson’s Old Spice aftershave.

Who are we kidding…all we had to do was watch the original trailer for the installation to mark the Disneyland trip on our calendars…

The Haute Mess goes Gaga in San Diego

Gaga Weekend is in full effect.

The Haute Mess is hitting the road!  We’re headed down to unnaturally-sunny-for-December San Diego this weekend to witness 2009’s Queen of Pop take the stage as Lady Gaga presents her Monster Ball Tour at the San Diego Sports Arena.

Stay tuned in the coming week for our first of many video features that we’ll be developing as part of the Haute Mess - the first being a report on the expectedly high levels of messy fun that Gaga is sure to provide.  Until then, depending on our varying levels of sobriety, we’re going to attempt to do some live tweeting during all of the festivities over on our Twitter Page starting tomorrow, Saturday December 19, at 7pm.

Be sure to hit us up on Twitter at @thehautemess_ with any questions, update requests, or as an attempt to detract our stupefied gaze from the ridiculousness that will be unfolding in front of us.  Here we go…!

The mirror isn’t for that, Nicole.

We feel more sorry for the makeup artist whose career completely ended last night…

Nicole Kidman at the 12.15.09 New York Premiere of Nine

Nicole Kidman arriving at the Ziegfield Theatre for the 12.15.09 Premiere of ‘Nine’

Nicole Kidman, pictured above, showed up for the New York premiere of her new film, Nine, last night.  Unfortunately for Nicole, no one seemed to notice that she looked as if she just came from spending some quality time with Lindsay Lohan.  Fortunately for us, though, we are reminded once again why we decided to begin The Haute Mess.

The Girl from Speed and the Drinking Movie are Nominated?

It’s like they’re advertising that this award show is a big jokey mess…

Sandra Bullock in ‘The Proposal’

As long as we’ve been around to see them, the Golden Globes have always been positioned as the ‘fun’ version of the Oscars - which is just a euphemism for the ‘joke red-headed stepchild version of the legitimate awards show’.

Well this year, they’ve stayed true to form by nominating Sandra Bullock for her riveting performance from 2009’s, The Proposal playing the hardass executive who is, of course, Canadian - a definite candidate for immediate deportation.  In order for her character to stay in the country, she has to pretend to marry Ryan Reynolds and visit his family in the far off world of Alaska.  Along her journey, she fights off dog-snatching eagles and inches her way into Grandma’s heart by breaking into an impromptu performance of Lil’ Jon’s ‘Get Low’. There were really NO OTHER Musical/Comedy performances that were better than this?

The next eye-roll of a nomination came for Todd Phillips’s The Hangover, which managed to snag a nomination for Best Picture Musical/Comedy.  Just to recap, this film:

…is nominated for a major industry award for the past year.  No further explanation should be needed.

Now this isn’t to say that we won’t be watching the awards live and on the edge of our seats for our favorites to take away the awards they deserve…but we also can’t ignore the fact that the Hollywood Foreign Press might as well just give up sooner rather than later.

Five for ‘Nine’ - Golden Globe Nominations

Three acting nods join two others and welcome the upcoming holiday release into awards season

Theatrical Trailer for Rob Marshall’s ‘Nine’

Awards season is officially off and running with this morning’s announcement of the 2010 Golden Globe Nominees.  Although the Golden Globes are one huge haute mess of a ceremony (as can be seen by SEVERAL of the nominees), we can’t help but be overjoyed that another musical movie is being recognized as all of the award shows are gearing up.

Rob Marshall’s Nine, based on Fellini’s 8 1/2, boasts one the most ridiculous casts put together on screen.  Oscar winners Nicole Kidman, Daniel Day Lewis, Marion Cotillard, Penelope Cruz, Sophia Loren and the one and only Dame Judi Dench join Alex Rodriguez’s ex-girlfriend and Fergie-Ferg (and her breasts) in the film adaptation of the famous musical.  Rob Marshall’s first musical follow up since his Oscar-winning Chicago has high expectations, and unfortunately it doesn’t look like the critics think they’re being met.  We could care less, however, especially seeing this sneak peek of Larry King’s interview with the entire cast.  We’ll be sure to put together a longer feature after we’ve seen the film, but until then, take a look at Larry King’s Interview.

Best Picture - Musical/Comedy

Best Actor in a Musical/Comedy - Daniel Day Lewis

Best Actress in a Musical/Comedy - Marion Cotillard

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture - Penelope Cruz

Best Original Song - ‘Cinema Italiano’
